Data Collection

YouTube Summarizer does not collect, store, or transmit:

• YouTube video URLs you visit
• Video transcripts or summaries
• Your API keys (stored locally in Chrome Storage Sync)
• Any personal identifiable information

What We Do Collect (Anonymous Usage Analytics)

If you opt in (enabled by default), we send anonymous events to Google Analytics 4:

• "summarize" event (duration, provider, success/failure) — no video IDs or content
• "update" event (version update)

You can disable this in Settings at any time.

How It Works

Your browser communicates directly with the LLM provider you configure (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini). We never proxy your requests. The extension runs entirely client-side.

Third-Party Services

The extension communicates with:

• youtubetranscript.com — to fetch video captions
• YouTube oEmbed API — to fetch video titles
• Your chosen LLM provider — to generate summaries (using your API key)
• Google Analytics — anonymous usage events (if enabled)
